Frequently asked questions
- Q. Which PC is available?
- Most computers available are PC compatible, Macintosh equipped with RS232C serial
- port. However, there are many newer PC not equipped with RS232 serial port. In this
- case, these PC requires connection via JLIP device with a USB serial adapter.
- Q. PDA is available?
- There are PDA devices (Palm handheld or Pocket PC) utilizing RS232C I/F.
- Using JLIP software with these devices may be difficult due to their limited performance
- of OS architecture.
- Q. What is RS232 for serial port?
- RS232 is a legacy standard of serial port that is equipped on a PC. You can also refer to
- this connection as a D-sub 9, D-sub 25 or as a "traditional" Macintosh connecter.
- Q. When connecting to a PC, what cable is used?
- Many PC compatibles are equipped with a D-sub 9 terminal. The JVC HS-V1KIT will
- connect to the JLIP device. The included PC cable from the HS-V1KIT is connected to
- the "PC Junction-box". Then connect the "PC Junction-box" to the JLIP device with a
- JLIP cable.
- If you have a camcorder with a PC kit for picture transferring from JVC, please use the
- "PC cable" from the kit. You will not need to use the JLIP cable for this scenario.
- Q. How do I connect to an iMac?
- The generation Macintosh computers (iMac) do not have a serial port. If a computer is
- not equipped with a serial port, they do have a USB port. It is possible to connect to the
- JLIP device by using a USB serial adapter.
- (We recommend using an adapter from Keyspan. We have tested our sample software
- using this adapter.)
- Q. How do I connect both a VCR and a camcorder to the PC
- at the same time?
- Does your camcorder have a PC terminal? You can then connect the camcorder to the PC
- with the "PC cable" supplied in the KIT.
- Next, please connect the camcorder to the VCR using the JLIP terminals with a JLIP cable.
- Do not forget to set a different ID number for each device.
- Q. What is the ID number?
- The ID number is required to enable the JLIP device to distinguish the JLIP devices.
- Normally, a VCR has an ID number value as 1 from the factory and a camcorder as a 6.
- You do have the ability to change these values to another value. If you are using a similar
- device, change one ID number to a different value.
- Do not use the same value for more than one device when setting the display menu of the unit.
- Q. What to do when I cannot control or stop the device?
- First, please quit the software application with PC. If not responding reset PC.
- More importantly, unplug the JLIP cable from device.
- Next, if there is no operation from the buttons on the device's panel or remote control to stop.
- This is a very rare scenario. Unplug the AC socket from the power supply.
- Please check software many times before connecting devices.
- Then check software with the devices many times. Be careful when developing and testing to
- eliminate problems.
