The 29th Tokyo Video Festival, "TVF2007", which is an international annual festival of personal video creations sponsored by Victor Company of Japan, Ltd. (JVC), has drawn a record high of 3,491 video entries from 55 countries and regions of the world. (Domestic: 841, Overseas: 2,650) This year we have seen a sharp increase of entries from overseas. Especially from China, we have received 1,602 entries (Last year: 405 entries). Moreover, we have received first entries from the countries (Uruguay, Ecuador, Serbia and Montenegro, etc.), which we believe is the sign that the "TVF" has been gaining more publicity in the world.
The breakdown of ages shows that the entries by those aged 10 -29 account for about 60% of the total entries (About 50% last time), showing an ever increasing number of entries by younger generations. Moreover, according to the genre of work, we have seen a large number of documentary works. The festival has drawn such works as will get the lowdown on immediate social problems "through the eyes of an individual who is actually involved" and express entrants? mental problems.
These works are now in final review by judges (specified separately). After selecting 100 prized works (Excellence Awards: 30 works, Special Awards: 70 works), announcing them (to be scheduled in January 2007) and showing all the prized works in public (to be shown in January, 2007) on the home page, we will be selecting the Video Grand Prize work and the JVC Grand Prize work out of the Excellence Award works (one work each). The final results will be announced at the "Awards Announcement Ceremony (to be held in March, 2007).
