JVC and Nexxt Media
Envision New Development in Net Business
Victor Company of Japan, Limited
(JVC) and Singapore based Nexxt Media Pte. Ltd.
have announced today the establishment of
business partnership for the development,
manufacture and marketing of a Hybrid type of
optical card.
The optical card, or generally
called a DigiCard, which Nexxt Media has
established patents in Asia and North America, is
a credit card-sized CD-ROM media which can be
played by any standard CD-ROM drive provided in
all personal computer system, and does not need
an additional hardware to operate.
|
JVC has established patents in Japan
and the U.S. for the technology of combining a
CD-ROM part and CD-R part on one card known as
the Hybrid Card. The Hybrid Card utilizes the CD-ROM
part for recording a security interactive program
for e-commerce transactions at the time pressing
the card and the CD-R part for individually
encrypting personal data (ID number, credit card
number and bank account) as well as an open
decryption key at a later stage when issuing the
card by the card issuer, such as credit card
company.
|
The Hybrid Card could be used for 1)
net-banking, 2) e-commerce, 3) a club loyalty
card, 4) a personal ID card, 5) an authorization
card for internet (portal card), and many other
security and encryption applications. This is the first card of
its kind in the industry, and was made possible
by JVCfs hybridization technology,
one of the many high-density optical recording
technologies the company owns.
|
Mr.
Hajime Takashima, Director of JVC in charge of
new business development, said, gThe
Hybrid Card would become de facto standard for
E-commerce from the standpoint of security. The
credit card companies would appreciate the
benefit of the Hybrid Card as well as the
customers.h
The
partnership includes 1) JVC licenses for the
patented hybrid technology to Nexxt Media for
marketing the Hybrid Card, 2) JVC obtains
exclusive manufacturing rights for DigiCards, in
Japan. With this partnership JVC is now
developing a Hybrid Card to be completed in a few
months.
The global marketing of the Hybrid Cards will be
strongly proceeded in co-operation of 3
companies, JVC, Nexxt Media and SAS Japan.
As use of the card expands globally, JVC has an
intention to begin manufacture of card sized
optical discs at JVC Disc America, its US disc
manufacturing plant in Alabama and California in
the future.
JVC, Nexxt Media, and SAS Japan are expecting to
establish greater cooperation and development of
the DigiCard platform into new solutions and
commercial applications in the future.
