JVC Disc America, Co. (JDC), Alabama, USA, a U.S. subsidiary of Victor Company of Japan, Ltd., has achieved "ISO 14001" certification for all of its offices and factories. ISO 14001 is an international standard for environmental management certified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). JDC's fulfillment center in Atlanta was certified in June 2000; the Tuscaloosa factory in August 2000; and the Sacramento factory in November 2000.

JDC was established in April 1986. It initially manufactured compact discs but has since added a distribution center and DVD production facilities.

To achieve certification, JDC assigned environment managers and officers at each of its locations, formulated environmental policies. JDC collected and analyzed basic data for the creation of an environmental protection and management program. Then JDC implemented training programs for its employees. This process has given JDC a strong environment management system.

Water quality takes priority in JDC's environmental protection activities. To achieve its targets, it upgraded equipment and also worked in partnership with its waste disposal contractors to improve handling. These efforts were rewarded during its audit by Advanced Waste Management Systems (AWM), a U.S. third-party certification body, which granted ISO 14001 certification on schedule.

JVC in Japan achieved "ISO 14001" certification for its headquarters, research center and all directly managed domestic Japanese production facilities (total of 14 locations) by March 1998. Fifteen of its local subsidiaries in Asia, America and Europe have also achieved "ISO 14001" certification.

JVC plans to expand environmental activities to its Japanese domestic sales divisions, service divisions and sales affiliates in the future. It targets certification for these facets of its organization, together with its logistic division, during fiscal 2001.
