June 26th Satisfied with the victorious football manoeuver in the first match, then, depressed after trapped by Romanian trick in the second, England, who needed more than a draw to go through to The 16th Finals, met uncanny Colombia at Lens. As led by swift Freddy Rincon, Colombians were rushing to the English half at the start to take the initiative, England stood back with their well-rocked defence and regained thourough confidence shortly. The 20th minute first strike by Darren Anderton from the Michael Owen's short pass and 29th' second by David Beckham, who hit brilliantly the direct free kick into Colombian goal, almost promised Brits' victory. More goals would secured it if Farid Mondragon did not make some superb saves. However, since Romania managed to take 1-1 draw against Tunisia at Saint-Denis, England must meet strong Argentina, the 1st place in Group H after winning by one goal against Croatia, in the next game. Japan lost to Jamaica in the last match at Lyon, so to go back home
with harsh World Cup experience with only a consolation goal by Masashi
