2007 JVC North Sea Jazz Festival Rotterdam

JVC Jazz Festival ROTTERDAM LogoJVC’s Nile Stage at the JVC Northsea Jazz Festival 2007 was the place to hear a non-stop parade of the biggest music acts in the world.

Steely Dan

From soul music great Al Green to the Jazz Rock pantheon of Steely Dan, Mike Stern, and Larry Carlton to neo Soul queen India.Arie; to funk giant Maceo Parker to hip hop kingpin Snoop Dogg to the comeback appearance of the immortal Sly Stone, the JVC Nile stage delivered!

This years’ JVC Northsea Festival took place in Rotterdam for the second year following a monumental move from The Hague. It was another great success as over 63,000 fans packed the AHOY complex throughout the weekend of July 13-15. The Fest runs fourteen stages from 18:30 until 2:00 for three consecutive days. The smaller stages present interesting music (mostly, but not only jazz) from all over the world. By far the largest stage at Northsea is the JVC Nile stage, which presents the biggest names in a 10,000 capacity venue that at times seems like a giant party in an aircraft hangar!

One of the highlights of the 2007 JVC Northsea Jazz Festival was the surprise Jam session which coalesced around the Queen of Dutch Jazz and Funk, Candy Dulfer. A last- minute cancellation by the unpredictable diva Amy Winehouse left a void in Sunday evening’s program, which was more than filled by Candy’s extended two hour set with Marcus Miller and other stars.

Other standouts on the ’07 JVC Northsea Jazz Festival included European singer/songwriter superstar Katie Melua, and sadly the last Dutch concert of the late great Joe Zawinul’s Syndicate.
