The 2005 JVC Jazz Festival New York opened with a stellar performance at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theatre. It was the first time JVC Jazz events were held in the new space.

The JVC North Sea Jazz Festival, one of the biggest jazz festivals in the world celebrated its 30th year.

In response to Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, as one of many New Orleans celebrations around the world, Harry Connick Jr. organized an NBC charity telethon, featuring Wynton Marsalis and Aaron Neville.

At the 2005 JVC Jazz Festival Newport history was made, as Chick Corea, Joshua Redman, Christian McBride, Gary Burton, Steve Swallow and special surprise guest Pat Metheny performed with legendary drummer Roy Haynes to celebrate his 80th Birthday.
