"Video is a community!"
Video works created by young students are already of a world-class standard, many new video artists are born from TVF. Junior and senior high school students can learn about people and society through video-making even if they do not aspire to become professionals. Adults can turn their journalistic eyes to a particular matter and report it from the viewpoint of a citizen. The mutual communication of individual expressions promotes a dialog in this community. Take part in TVF!
The number of prominent works questioning society has increased regardless of genre. Works dealing with human relationships-especially those around the artist's everyday life-are particularly noteworthy. I want to explore "Where do we come from? Who are we? Where are we going? (Gauguin)" through the submitted works. The success of the works depends on how much the distance from the subject can be minimized or eliminated.
I could meet many artists and works through TVF. I believe that when creators meet each other, a powerful message is born. Artists and works that converge here are great cultural assets that all artists can share. I am looking forward to meeting you at TVF, which marks its 30th anniversary this year.
I look forward to TVF every year because it allows me to see works that show various situations in other countries and demonstrate the talent of artists who come from around the world. The works we receive are becoming increasingly diversified, and their quality has improved tremendously. I cannot help but feel that we are now in a time when we can visually assert what we have in mind with video.
I am amazed that we receive so many wonderful works every year. I am waiting for your earnest and ambitious work that will astound and excite us this year again. Show how powerful modern video can be. Funny animations are also welcome. I am looking forward to seeing your work.
"Try not to become too preoccupied."
I began to think that I would be happy if I can see works from those who are not too preoccupied by themselves. The "Mystery of Chinese Character Tests," which won the Grand Prize last year, is a good example. Works created by individuals should be created by those who can mentally afford to think a little more about other individuals.
