Selection Criteria
  • Outstanding submissions that advance the essential quality of video expression
  • Outstanding submissions that express the personal world
  • Submissions of outstanding artistic quality that pursue creativity and visual expression
  • Meaningful submissions that provide intimate views about everyday life, communities, business, and so forth
  • Other outstanding submissions that show the appeal and potential of the video medium in a new light
Theme/Subject You may select any theme or subject of your choice.
Entry Requirements
  • Submissions must be shot by , and must be 20 minutes or less in length including end credits.
  • There is no limit on the number of submissions you can enter.
  • Record each submission on a separate disc or tape medium.
  • Both previously released and unreleased videos will be accepted.
  • Only Mini DV, D-VHS, S-VHS or VHS tapes, DVD disc or Blu-ray disc, can be accepted. Please convert to one of these medium.
  • The copyright must belong to the author.
  • When using a DVD disc, ensure that it is standard DVD format, DVD-R, region code 2 or region-free, and with no copy guard.
  • When using a Blu-ray disc, ensure that it is BDAV format, BD-R, region code A or region-free, and with no copy guard.
  • Video shot by a High-definition Everio is also acceptable if the video is recorded on DVD-R and can be played back with a JVC CU-VD40.
Entry Qualifications We welcome all applications regardless of professional or amateur status, whether an individual or group effort, and regardless of nationality or age.
How to Enter
  • Please ensure that the application form and the submitted video are attached together and sent as one package.

  • Entry is free of charge.
  • Please include some black or color bar footage for a few seconds at the beginning and end of your work.
  • These will not be included in the total time of your work.
  • Package the submitted video securely to avoid damage during shipping. Please note that we accept no responsibility for any videos which are lost or damaged.
  • Submitted videos will not be returned to the owner.
  • It is recommended that you add English subtitles to your work for languages other than English.
  • Please submit your work with a synopsis of the story or the script.
Awards Announcement and Ceremony
  • January, 2008: Winners will be announced on our website.
  • March, 2008: Awards Announcement and Ceremony.
Rights to Copyrighted Work Used in Submitted Videos
  • If you use commercially available recorded music or video footage, it is your responsibility to secure licensing rights, pay royalties, etc. before submitting your work. Do not submit copyrighted work without securing proper authorization.
  • If your submission uses images or music created by others --or portraits of others-- without obtaining their permission, we may not be able to show it either in public or on the Internet.
Use of Submitted Videos
  • The copyright of the submitted work belongs to the author.
  • The event organizer is granted the nonexclusive right to (1) reproduce (including capture of still images and conversion of broadcast formats)/edit in whole or in part, (2) loan to third parties, (3) show to the public, (4) translate/adapt (including the insertion of subtitles in Japanese, English, and other languages), (5) distribute, and (6) transmit to the public, the submitted work for the following purposes. (The event organizer will consult with the applicant separately if any of the following activities is performed on a charged basis.)
    1. Campaigns to promote video production targeted at children, school/college students, adults, etc.
    2. Seminars and exhibitions(including those for products produced and marketed by the event organizer
    3. Public screening
    4. Promotion and advertising for TVF
  • The event organizer will consult with the applicant separately if any of the following occurs.
    1. If the event organizer wishes to sell the submitted work on DVD or other package media.
    2. If the event organizer wishes to transmit the submitted work on the Internet on a charged basis.
Effect The Japanese version of the Entry Regulations supercedes all other versions.
Once you enter the festival, you are deemed to have agreed to comply with the regulations.
Any dispute arising between an entrant and the event organizers will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Japan Court of First Instance.
Handling of Private Information Any private information on an entrant provided in the JVC Tokyo Video Festival Entry Form is handled as follows by Victor Company of Japan, Limited(JVC) and the JVC Group affiliated companies (hereinafter collectively referred to as "the Company").

The use of information provided is limited to:
-Correspondence regarding submitted work
-Provision of information on the JVC Tokyo Video Festival
-Publication in the Festival Report and on the Internet (your name, age, gender, and country/region)
[Storage of information]
Private information provided is stored at the Company for the period the Company deems necessary under appropriate management according to the Company's private information protection policies.
[Provision and disclosure of information]
Private information provided is not given or disclosed to any third party without the prior consent of the entrant, except when:
-Operations related to the use of information specified above are entrusted to cooperating companies. The Company ensures that the cooperating companies appropriately manage information provided and do not use it for any purposes other than those specified above.
-The Company is requested to disclose information provided by a Japanese court, administration, or similar institution according to Japanese law.
